The following is a list of ticker symbols for some of the Exchange Traded Funds that track major indexes. For example, the ticker symbol SPY is for the ETF that tracks the S&P 500 index.
This list contains leveraged and inverse ETFs. What does this mean?
A (1x) following a ticker symbol means the ETF simply tracks the index. (Note: this is true of all the ETFs except the volatility ETFs.)
A (2x), on the other hand, means the ETF goes up two percent when the index goes up one percent and visa versa. So, a (2x) fund is a leveraged fund.
Inverse ETFs move in the opposite direction of the index they track. So, a (1x short) goes down one percentage point when the index goes up one percentage point.
Investing in leveraged and inverse ETFs is not advisable for normal investors. So, stay away unless you have a lot of experience and have really done your homework.
You can go to a stock charting website such as BigCharts to see how these ETFs perform over time.
